The artist, who was born in Münsterwald in 1950, first studied law in Marburg, after passing the first state examination he switched to the Berlin University of the Arts. He completed his art studies in 1981 as a master student. Since 1987 he has taught at the University of the Arts in Berlin and at the Technical University of Braunschweig. His works are presented in numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions. Fischer’s works are also represented in many public and private collections, such as the collection of the Federal Chancellery or the Volkswagen factory.
In the 1970s, Fischer was still associated with the Berlin Realists. In the 1980s, Fischer developed an expressive, dynamic style of expression that removed him from the pure realism of the previous decade. Even today, his work is characterized by an expressive brushwork. The human head is a central motif in Fischer’s work. Fischer uses this as a symbol for human dreams and desires, but also for deeper to hidden emotions. In a complicated process of applying and removing paint with drippings and color gradients, Fischer worked the motif of a head out of his dynamic pictorial world layer by layer, thus offering a metaphor for the human rebellion of feelings and associations.
