Max Koehler

In a mysterious way, Max Köhler , a virtuoso of the loose brushstroke, knows how to transfer typical motifs of our region into a modern light in a few skilful strokes and a high-contrast, bright and bright colourfulness. In particular, he gained national fame with his remarkable Black Forest “Bollenhut-Mädel”. The wide views over the Upper Rhine landscape with its extensive meadows and fields and the farms crouching between hills are also worth seeing. His paintings retain the deep emotions and familiarity that we associate with the term “home”. A retrospective of landscapes and people from the Black Forest, Ortenau and Alsace can be seen.

Max Koehler, b. 1942, lives in Schutterwald near Offenburg. After an apprenticeship as a photographer in Karlsruhe and Offenburg, he studied painting at the Free Academy in Mannheim with Professor Berger-Bergner in the 1960s. He had his first exhibition in 1965 at the Wehner Gallery in Berlin. About 60 exhibitions followed in Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria. More than 70 of his large format paintings are in the public domain.
