GALERIE MESSMER hosted a special guest this summer: the Korean artist SEO from Berlin. She is one of the stars of the contemporary art scene! Her works are a play of colors and perspective, with which she repeatedly challenges the viewer’s feelings.
Born around 1977 in Gwangju, in the province of Seoul, SEO moved to Berlin in 2001 to attend the University of the Arts. From 2003 to 2004 she was a master student with Professor Georg Baselitz.
In addition to top-class prizes such as the “Beijing Art Award”, the “Milestone” of the Leopold Hoesch Museum or the “Award of Excellent Painting” of the National Art Museum of China, SEO has also received a scholarship as the best student at Cho-sun University. She has already taken part in several biennials, such as the 54th Venice Biennial or the Animamix Biennial in Shanghai. Her works are already represented in important collections such as MoMA (Museum of Modern Art), the Federal Chancellery, the German Embassy in Tehran and the Museo de Bellas Artes in Santander, Spain. There are also numerous solo and group exhibitions in major galleries and museums around the world, from New York to Berlin, from Beijing to Milan.
Finally, SEO describes her work as follows: “In my work, I have always focused on the topic of globalization and its effects on the environment, culture and people. In doing so, I use the technique of collage, deconstruction, the construction of pictorial elements and motifs from the Far East and the West in order to approach the subject both formally and in terms of content from different positions and, in doing so, to repeatedly work out the essence of things”.
Korean artist SEO’s exhibition at GALERIE MESSMER was a great success. For the most part, new works were shown that had never been presented to the public before.
