Anyone who encounters a work by Patrizia Casagranda<\/strong> quickly realizes that there is far more<\/strong> going on here than just painting. Born in Stuttgart in 1979, the German-Italian artist<\/strong>\u2014who now lives in Krefeld and works in Germany, the Netherlands, and India\u2014is one of the leading figures in contemporary German art.<\/strong> <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

With her distinctive \u201cSculptural Dot Paintings,\u201d<\/strong> she has made a <\/strong>name for herself internationally <\/strong>and has been honored with, among other awards, the \u201cLorenzo il Magnifico Award\u201d at the Florence Biennale<\/strong> (2021 and 2023), the \u201cAwarded Artist\u201d title at the Biennale d\u2019Arte di Roma<\/strong>, the Spotlight Award at Art Expo New York<\/strong>, and the Golden Art Award at the Osten Biennale.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In her \u201cSculptural Dot Paintings,\u201d<\/strong> Patrizia Casagranda (b. 1979)<\/strong> combines the tradition of classical portrait painting<\/strong> with a relief-like, three-dimensional visual language<\/strong> that uniquely unites painting, object, and structure.<\/p>

Using a proprietary process that combines <\/strong> historical pigments with <\/strong>a special mortar-plaster mixture<\/strong>, the artist creates works of extraordinary spatial presence, whose effect changes <\/strong>with every shift in light and <\/strong> viewing angle <\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In her artistic language, Casagranda combines influences from Pop Art, urban art, material art, and recycling art into <\/strong>a distinctive contemporary visual aesthetic<\/strong>. Relief-like dot patterns, typographic fragments, stencils, grids, and spray-painted surfaces combine with recycled materials to form multi-layered compositions<\/strong> whose motifs are often only fully revealed when viewed from a greater distance. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

She portrays iconic figures<\/strong> from art history\u2014such as \u201cGirl with a Pearl Earring\u201d or \u201cGolden Kahlo\u201d\u2014as well as women from diverse cultures and social contexts<\/strong>.<\/p>

Her works explore identity, dignity, diversity, and <\/strong> humanity<\/strong>, addressing themes such as equality, tolerance, humanism<\/strong>, and cultural dialogue<\/strong>. Series such as \u201cBelief\u201d and \u201cDiversity\u201d examine religion, social diversity, and respectful coexistence. In doing so, the artist avoids simplistic statements and creates images that are emotionally moving<\/strong> while also raising social questions.<\/strong> <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Casagranda laid the foundation for her career by earning an outstanding degree in design<\/strong> with a focus on<\/strong> illustration<\/strong>. She then worked as a graphic designer and <\/strong> art director<\/strong>, developing concepts for artists including G\u00fcnther Uecker<\/strong> (1930\u20132025) and Markus L\u00fcpertz ( <\/strong>b. 1941). This creative precision continues to shape her art to this day. <\/p>
