Color painting in a nutshell

Scharein, Lichtgestalt 2010

After the great success in 2014, GALERIE MESSMER now has the honor of exhibiting impressive works by Günter Scharein for the second time. The Berlin artist’s color fields allow immersion in non-representational, color-space surfaces that seem to consist of light. Stroll through completely new worlds of being.

Born in Lower Saxony in 1949, Scharein’s works now adorn the most important of all collections, e.g. B. the German Bundestag, the Daimler Collection and the State Gallery Stuttgart. The speeches at his vernissages are given by popular personalities such as Dr. Gregor Gysi, it was the last time in the Berlin exhibition of the company Sanofi-Aventis – only Scharein’s pictures themselves are even more convincing.

The painter describes the color yellow as “bitchy” and thus reveals the human aspect in his meticulous color studies. The emotional is indeed a major player in Scharein’s work. The artist wishes “that the viewers engage with his pictures with all their experience, sensuality and spirituality”.

At the same time, he works with the greatest precision and accuracy to fathom the autonomous properties in each color. The artistic process is based on the accurate application of tiny dots of colour. The pointilists already made use of the resulting effect. The meticulous points blur before the eyes of the viewer into emotionally charged “color landscapes”. Up to 17 different colored dots can be found on one (!) square centimetre.

These develop into large pulsating surfaces with a luminosity of almost unbelievable proportions. The works swing, vibrate and change depending on the light and viewing angle. Scharein’s pictures come alive and radiate irrepressible joie de vivre, vitality and diversity. Let yourself be infected and enchanted!
